Par 5 – Red/488 Yards White/495 Yards Blue 502 Yards Gold 000 Yards
Description:
Reflecting the theory that opening holes ought to be forgiving, this par 5 offers brilliant views from an elevated tee overlooking a wide and welcoming fairway. It is named for the most prominent feature of the expansive views – the Trial Island lighthouse, a vital beacon when fall and spring fogbanks shroud the course. This is one of the few West Coast lighthouses still to be staffed by a keeper and his family. It is also home to a vocal colony of California Sea Lions who migrate here in winter.
Pro Tips:
A fairly benign, straight-forward opening hole, this par 5 offers the opportunity for an early birdie as long-hitters can reach the green in two. Avoiding the pine trees lining the right side of the fairway will set up an approach from the preferred left side. The relatively flat green will give an accurate read on the speed of the greens for the rest of the round.
