Giving back to the surrounding community

Our diverse Membership comes from all walks of life, yet our common tie is the value we attach to family, friends, and community. The Victoria Golf Club encourages interaction between Members through golfing and social events that also raise funds for organizations close to our hearts. Collectively, we are all deeply committed to giving back to our surrounding community through a number of charitable initiatives. Since 1995, the Club and its Members have raised over $1,000,000 for Victoria Women's Transition House, Pacific Centre Family Services Association, Evans Scholars Foundation, and KidSport Victoria. Members have many opportunities to become involved by volunteering with the VGC Charity Committee.

Evans Scholars Foundation

In 1929, U.S. Amateur Champion Charles "Chick" Evans established a fund to send deserving caddies to university. Today, more than 100,000 golfers in Canada and the United States support the program, assisted by proceeds from special events, endowments, and the PGA Tour's BMW Championship.

In 2006, Victoria Golf Club became the first golf club in Canada to adopt a caddie program dedicated entirely to the Chick Evans Scholarship. We have so far seen three former VGC caddies study with full Evans Scholarships at the University of Colorado. Two have graduated, and we couldn't be more proud to see their current and future success.

Apply for an Evans Caddie Scholarship - successful applicants fulfill the following criteria:

  • must achieve top marks in high school,

  • have contributed to the community through volunteering,

  • come from a family with financial need, and

  • have completed a minimum of 100 'loops' caddying before their senior year.

If you wish to apply, please print out the application form (PDF) and fill it out completely. Please drop off the form in person to the Front Desk at the Victoria Golf Club (no email submissions accepted).

Evans Par Club

In September 2015, the Victoria Golf Club established an Evans Caddie Par Club to change the course of a lifetime, one caddie at a time. Members who generously donate to the VGC Evans Scholars Par Club Program receive Revenue Canada-approved Charitable Tax Receipts. After many years of work, the Club has refined a method by which donations to our Evans Caddies can be made through the Victoria Foundation, thereby enabling the Foundation to issue charitable tax receipts that will be recognized by the CRA.

Each year, VGC is expected to contribute thousands of dollars to the Evans Program. Since 2006, the Club has raised some $150,000 for the program; the value of the scholarships to date is USD$750,000.  We are proud to announce our latest scholar recipients Tim Peacock and River Bristow.  See Press Release Here.

The Evans Caddie Scholarship program was lucky enough to be on CFAX radio in April 2017 featuring our Head Professional, Lindsay Bernkevitch, and Evans Caddie, River Bristow. Listen to the interview by clicking the play button.
